Greenwich Newspaper Editorial Nails Linda McMahon’s Real Problem

The national media, from ABC News to The Washington Post, cover Linda McMahon’s U.S. Senate candidacy with all the gravitas of a run for her elementary school student council. The leading wrestling fan newsletter says Connecticut Hearst newspapers’ exploration of the dead end of a Congressional investigation of World Wrestling Entertainment drug policies doesn’t amount to a hill of beans.

But an editorial in the Greenwich Time — the newspaper in the town where McMahon resides — gets it.

“More questions on steroid abuse,”, was published on March 1. I’m just catching up to it, and it needs wider reading. The money quotes:

* “McMahon should not assume that investigation’s failure puts the issue to rest.”

* “The McMahon campaign is trying to spin this as just another political attack. Far from it. The issue speaks directly to the issue the candidate has made the centerpiece of her campaign. The well-being of the people who make WWE successful deserves closer scrutiny.”

* “To date, on the most troubling issue raised about her business career, her answers have been, at best, unsatisfying. She needs to do better.”

Even more important than this wise editorial is the work that remains to be done on Linda McMahon’s business history on the news pages.
